Hikers rescued from Plotterkill Preserve
ROTTERDAM Five hikers were rescued from the Plotterkill Preserve on Thursday evening.
The hikers had left about 3:30 p.m. and weren’t able to find their way back to the entrance to the trailhead by the time it became dark, according to Plotterkill Fire Chief John Tobiassen. They used a phone to call for help about 5:30 p.m., and fire officials got a description of the general area and told them to stay put on the trail.
Rescuers located the hikers and rescued them in about an hour, according to Tobiassen.
“We sent a team down with them to intercept them and walk them out,” he said.
There were no injuries, but the hikers were a little cold, Tobiassen said.
