— A Lake George man was arrested Wednesday afternoon, accused of trying to rob a liquor store.

Yvon Majeus Jr, 36, faces two counts of felony third-degree attempted robbery and unlawful third-degree fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.

A state trooper driving north on Route 9 in Wilton saw a vehicle pulled off to the side of the road near the liquor store and saw a man trying to cover his face as he walked into the store, police said.

As Trooper Len Fornabia pulled into the parking lot and got out of his cruiser, the store owner ran screaming from the store. Majeus allegedly ran out shortly after and didn’t stop when Fornabia ordered him to.

Majeus drove away and Fornabia pursued him on Route 9 onto Northern Pines Road at speeds up to 100 mph, police said.

As other officers responded, the chase continued on Traver Road, Ballard Road and back again on Northern Pines Road, where Majeus abandoned his car and ran.

Troopers caught him near Route 9 north of Ballard Road.

Police said Majeus didn’t get any money and no one was injured. Besides the store owner, Majeus is accused of trying to rob another person in the store.

He was arraigned in Town Court and sent to Saratoga County Jail without bail.

Majeus also was charged with several vehicle and traffic offenses.
