History shows that good things happen when rich pay their share

History shows that good things happen when rich pay their share It was interesting to read the article-on-investing interview that featured PIMCO’s oracle investment officers Mohamed A. El-Erian’s and Bill “The Bond King” Gross’ position on tax reform [Nov. 26 Time magazine]. “There should be tax reform where the wealthy pay more and cooperations pay more but we end up with a more efficient system.” In the 1950s, when Dwight Eisenhower was president, the highest ...

Re secession - not so sure about the religion point. Also, you forgot to mention that there would be a nice elite government run by the those who think as you do when they continue to supress the minority vote.

Anyone who seriously thinks you can do Christmas shopping Downtown should be totally ignored. Another cheer leader from out of County? Our Christmas Parade needs to be returned to Black Friday so people can plan on it.

To Bob Nicolelloa- the healthcare law in no way shape or form encroaches on anyones civil liberties or rights to observe their religion of choice. Your suggestion is totally ridiculous. No one ever FORCES anyone to use birth control against their religious beliefs. On the contrary- you have the religious "Christian" right attempting to force their so called morals and religion on others by denying women the right to control their own bodies. Stop the war on women and their freedom to control their own destiny. Birth control prevents UNINTENDED pregrancy and and their right to self determination and I argue their constitutional right to "pursue happiness" and stay out of poverty. Abortion protects women, teens and sadly young girls (as young as 10- from the trauma of rape and incest and the torture that would follow if forced to take such pregnancies to term. Not to mention the risk of death taking many pregnancies to term. So if you dont want to use birth control or have an abortion- then dont. Stay out of womens bodies and lives and stop using Obamacare has your ploy to push your own religion on others. You forget we are supposed to live in a free country.

Bob Nicolella- According to The Annie E Casey Foundation, the highest proportion of children living in single-parent families are in Missippi, Louisiana, South Carolina, New Mexico, and Alabama, only one of which went blue in the last election. According to the US Department of Justice, very red Texas, which boasts of its tough law enforcement, had a violent crime rate 20% higher than New York, and a property crime nearly double that of the Empire State.

Snowgrinch - While it's true that the divorce rate per capita is higher in Red states, it's also true that the marriage rate is higher in those states. It follows that the divorce rate is not going to be high in Blue states where more couples live together and do not marry.

Just out of curiosity, who would pay for their Social Security if they aren't part of the United States?

The states that want to secede, would be a third world country in under a year.
Those states are the biggest welfare grabbing states there are, meaning, they receive far more money from the federal government than they contribute.

The top 4 receiving:
New Mexico $2.03
Mississippi $2.02
Alaska $1.84
Louisiana $1.78
For every dollar they contribute.
The red states are a welfare KINGDOM.

Better educated? They are THE LEAST educated, and that's why it's so easy to dupe them into acting against their own best interests.

Social security would not be viable, because they conribute next to nothing compared to the blue states.

"High rate of employment, as everyone would prefer to work and not live off welfare."

So what exactly is preventing them from working?

Please, do us a favor and leave, as soon as possible.
After supporting you all these years, we're just about broke.

I just have one question.
If the red states are so great, then why aren't you living there?

To all of you who think that living in a red state is better than a blue state - move to Alabama and Tennessee. I suggest those because I lived in each one. Live in each state for at least six months. Then visit back here and we can compare notes. Good luck.

Posted in Sunday's Gazette, and re-posted here:

The "Entitlement People" are mostly in Red States... and they get their "Entitlement Funds" mostly from the Blue States.
Of the 32 states which receive more than they contribute, 27 states (84%) are Republican Red States.
Of the 18 states which contribute more than they receive, 14 states (78%) are Democrat Blue States!
If the Red Welfare States secede from USA, the result would be a tax cut for the Blue States (Donor States) who fund the Red States entitlements.

A Christian friend of mine moved to Tennessee 2 yrs ago. He said he hated NYS and hated the high taxes. I asked him to explain his decision & he went on to say that his taxes in Saratoga NY were $6000/yr which included his school tax. He also said NYS has too many Jews and liberals (lol). Well, he left. He sold his house and bought a farm house on 10 acres for 1/2 the price of his Saratoga home.
hmmm.

Several things happened:
1. His new house had a tax bill of $500/yr (great!)
2. He had to pull his kids out of the public school because it was filled w/morons (his words). He then had his wife home-school the kids. (He was plannin on doin that anyway)
3. He said there were absolutely NO services on the municipal level. No trash pick up, no municipal water, sewer or road maintenance. They had a freak snowstorm his first winter and the power was out for 2 weeks.
4. He could not strike up an intelligent conversation with any of the locals at the local convenience store because they were only focused on these things: God, guns, their trucks and beer. He never realized how important internal combustion engines were (the 2nd God). Women were dead last in the pecking order (and knew their place).
5. They don't like Yankees. They think were all too smart.
6. Why do you shave?
7. He got real tired hearing the name Bubba.
8. Nobody's working. They don't have any spending money.
9. Not many of the adults finished high school.
10. Way too many kids in the military.
11. He realized that NY was way more tolerant an accepting of diverse opinions and ideas than he thought.
12. His new friends said he worked too hard and why?
13. After the power came back on after the storm he couldn't believe that people were expecting the government to fix everything (contrary to his red-state ideals).
14. While he and his family of 7 were out to eat, his daughter was approached by a guy old enough to be her dad and she was only 13. That was the last straw.
Ok.
He sold his freedom shack and moved back to Saratoga.
He complains a lot about NYS to this day but says he'll never go back to TN -- they're loco!
(lol)

bostonfan Texas has such a high crime rate due to the 10s of thousands of illegal aliens that POUR acros the border with Mexico each year. Look at California, 75% of all rapes and murders and gang activity is from illegals. So take your so called numbers and stick them.... Get real facts before you spout off. I have lived in Albuquerque New Mexico and in El Paso Texas, I know what happens in both states due to the illlegal problem.....My daughter in Albuquerque is afraid to go out at night because of the drive by shooting from gang members all over the city. When I lived there and my daughter was just a baby, our apartment house got shot up in a drive by because the mother of a gang member lived there. You liberals are happy to run your mouths but try living in the reality of it for just a year. I dare you.....

I really get annoyed when NIMBY like you want to spout off your ideas. Why don't you do some volunteer work with the gang members (I have) or homeless people (I Have) or even join the Schenectady neighborhood watch by contacting Fred Lee. All of you liberals love to tell us what is best for us and it is usually, illegal aliens, more crime and always more taxes. The only problem is that it is never your neighborhood or your money.... Funny how that works.

Fritzdawg, I can't decide if you are a liar or just so stupid, you just swallow up anything the left tells you. Almost all those states you list as welfare states because more federal dollars come in then go out in taxes are the result of military and Dept. of Energy spending. Did you know that Alaska ranks number 1 in military spending in the nation? I didn't think so. That spending dwarfs the outlays in direct payments such as welfare and social security and medicare/medicaid.

wmarincic-

If you knew anything about me or who I am, you would know how far off base your statements about me are. I have spent over 15 years of ministry either serving or working closely with inner-city congregations. I sincerely applaud the gift of time and talent you have made to care for the least among us.

If you will review my original comment you will see that I simply offered statistics that I believe stand counter to the assumptions made by the writer of the original letter. I did not really offer an ideas, just information. I respect your right to disagree and to offer your opinion regarding those statistics, however, I will not accept your personal attacks.

Boston, then you have my apology.... I'm just so tired of these people that tell me that I should paying more taxes and the police are criminals and illegal aliens should be allowed to just come to America and take. I'm tired of the takers. I have a sister on SSI because she is an alcoholic and can't work.... I tried to get her into rehbs at least 5 times and she either leaves or is thrown out. I'm tired of the takers who stay on SSI or DSS because they make almost as much money as working. Where is the self respect and dignity in America anymore? If someone is truly needy I'm all for giving them all of the help they need.

BostonRedsoxfan, your source for "statistics" is one of the most virulent "leftie" organizations out there. You should get your facts from responsible sources and then reduce the information down yourself. Or, short of that, get your information from multiple diverse sources and balance the information.
