One man dies, another recovering from shooting in separate hunting incidents

— One hunter died and another was injured over the holiday weekend in separate incidents in Schoharie County, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Tony Desmond said an 83-year-old man was pronounced dead following a 911 call reporting a hunter stricken in the woods on Becker Road in the town of Gilboa. Becker Road leads into the Keyserkill State Forest. The man's name was not immediately available.

In an unrelated incident, a 47-year-old man as struck in the lower back after his handgun fired accidentally after the hunter fell on Thanksgiving Day, according to the sheriff's department.

The man, whose identity was not immediately available, was hunting in the town of Esperance, about 1000 yards south of U.S. Route 20 near the hamlet of Sloansville.

The man's injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to the sheriff's department
