DOT needs to put ‘drivers first’ not just on the Northway

Text Size: A | A

DOT needs to put ‘drivers first’ not just on the Northway I applaud Gov. Cuomo for implementing his “Drivers First” initiative and subsequent directive to modify the Thaddeus Kosciusko Bridge re-decking project to lessen drivers’ inconvenience. The directive purportedly came after the governor himself sat in traffic on the Northway on the way back from the Adirondacks due to this same re-decking project. We need to expand this program and for our state Department of ...

To: Steven M. Jeffes... how sad that the driving public had to be inconvenienced for a few short weeks in order to rebuild a dangerously decrepit bridge! And never mind that there were many other roads that drivers could take during that time... instead they whined about not being able to drive down their precious no-speed-zone Northway... and this for just a few short weeks out of their lives!! And... rebuilding the bridge just might SAVE their lives! My goodness... what have we all become?? So the Governor got caught in the traffic tie-up huh?... well, good for him... makes me feel like he's a real human being when in fact he could have hopped a helicopter and laughed at the traffic and little people down below. Learn to relax people and APPLAUD those who work tirelessly on the roadways FOR OUR SAFTEY!! Leave home a little earlier when you know you will be held up... or for heaven's sake... take another route! One funny story... during the re-construction of the bridge, I happened to be driving north on Rte. 9 on a Sunday late afternoon. The traffic going south was backed up for MILES! I wondered why and thought maybe there's an accident or something. Just for the heck of it, we decided to take the Northway because we were curious about the construction... and guess what?... NO TRAFFIC!! We only got to see the construction workers hard at work because we had to slow down through the site... but absolutely NO traffic tie-ups... all the traffic was on Rte. 9. haha! Relax people, take a deep breath, sing a song, play a game on your ipad or Kindle... or... here's a novel idea... look at the scenery! And slow down to live longer!

Re photo:

Who's the bully, here? Who's the racist? Why it's the school district, of course.
.
Notice that school districts have been given the power to punish students not just based on the feelings of others, but based on how the district believes others SHOULD or COULD reasonably feel in the situation. When government takes the power to punish citizens based on real AND reasonably imagined feelings, anything and everything can be punished. It's an abomination, flatly Un-American and unconstitutional. Citizens, including students, are entitled to reasonable notice before they can be punished for their actions. No such notice was given, here. The punishment is unlawful.
.
Moreover, the punishment is an insult to the student who consented to be in the photograph. It implicitly charges the student with using poor judgment and with conspiracy to create an inappropriate and racist advertisement. What do you think of that?
