New Fulton County department head brings experience
FULTON COUNTY A Cattaraugus County man with 23 years’ service in county government will serve as Fulton County’s new director of information services and printing.
The county’s Board of Supervisors appointed Perry Lovell to the $70,000 post this week, filling the slot vacated by the retirement of Anthony Basile.
Board Chairman Michael F. Gendron said in a statement that Lovell will be an asset to county government.
“Mr. Lovell garnered the attention of the board because of his broad range of experience supporting county government systems. After meeting with him, it was clear that his demeanor and skill set would be an asset to Fulton County departments and the citizens who rely on them,” Gendron said.
Lovell will take charge of five other employees in information services, printing and the mailroom, county spokesman Jon R. Stead said Wednesday. The position requires managing computers, servers and operating systems for 23 county departments, Stead said, calling it an important position, considering the amount of information and functions that are tied to computers today.
“Most counties these days are pretty well developed in terms of technology. Pretty much every department here in county government these days is dependent on a computer system,” Stead said.
Basile has stayed on past his retirement on a part-time basis to maintain some continuity, Stead said.
According to a news release, Lovell brings substantial experience with telecommunications equipment installation as well as software. He played a key role in upgrading the public safety dispatch system and public administration software in Cattaraugus County.
Lovell, who served as network coordinator for the Cattaraugus County Information Services Department for 23 years, said Wednesday he sees the two counties as comparable, though Cattaraugus County is about twice the size geographically of Fulton County.
He said he plans to move to Fulton County next month.
The county board set a start date of Jan. 1, 2013, for the job, with an initial one-year term, but Lovell will be working part-time at a cost of $38.31 per hour during December.
