Siena vs. North Carolina A&T: Aggies hang on to deal Saints women a home loss, 49-47

— JaQuayla Berry’s free throw with 4.5 seconds remaining was the only point scored in the final 6:15 as North Carolina A&T held off Siena, 49-47, Tuesday night at the Alumni Recreation Center.

The Saints (1-3) trailed by 10 in the second half, but came back to lead by one, 47-46, when Clara Sole Anglada made a layup with 6:37 left.

Siena didn’t score again, however, missing its last eight shots and committing seven turnovers the rest of the way.

North Carolina A&T (2-2) couldn’t muster much more, but did just enough to pull out the victory.

The Aggies misfired on their final six shots while committing six turnovers to close out the game.

Overall, the teams combined for 50 turnovers in the contest.

Tehresa Coles led the Saints with 11 points.

Amber Calvin had no difficulty scoring, making 11 of 14 shots and scoring 28 points off the bench for the Aggies.

She had 20 in the first half, and 14 of those came during the Aggies’ 20-5 run to close out the half and take a 30-22 lead.

Siena found its spark in the second half, and at one point made five straight shots, executing with precision in transition.

Coles played a major role in the action and added six steals, five rebounds and five assists to her stat line.

Lily Grenci had nine points and 10 rebounds for the Saints, while Kate Zarotney was once again solid off the bench with eight points and five rebounds.

Berry contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals for the Aggies.

Siena returns to action Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip-off at Binghamton.
