Saint Rose women's soccer team advances to national semis

WEST CHESTER, Pa. — The College of Saint Rose women’s soccer team erupted for three goals in a span of less than five minutes in the first half to defeat host West Chester, 4-1, Sunday, in the champ­ionship game of the NCAA Div­ision II East Regionals.

The victory puts the Golden Knights, the defending national champion, in the national semifinals on Nov. 29 at Evans, Ga., against second-ranked West Florida.

After senior back Molly Harpster gave the Knights (20-2-2) the lead when she hooked a corner kick into the West Chester net at 22:13, Carmelina Puopolo followed with her 20th goal of the year at 23:53 and Sydney Bond scored off an assist from Puopolo at 26:43 to put the game out of reach.

MILWEUKEE, Wisc. — Brendan Farley scored 26 points, and senior Jamie Zajac added 17 as the Engin­eers won the consolation game of the All-Engineers Classic at the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

Zajac earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Sarah Wetmore (17 points) and Jen Rock (13) earned spots on the all-tournament team for the Engin­eers (1-1).
