Former Northville superintendent takes principal job
GLOVERSVILLE The former superintendent of the Northville Central School District has been named interim principal at Park Terrace Elementary School in the Gloversville Enlarged School District.
Kathy Dougherty will fill the position that will be created by the pending departure of Stephen Pavone. Pavone, who has served 22 years as Park Terrace principal, is retiring in December.
Dougherty will serve as interim principal while the district conducts a search for a permanent candidate for the job, said Gloversville schools Superintendent Michael Vanyo.
Dougherty’s appointment extends through June 30.
“I am certain Mrs. Dougherty’s presence will greatly contribute to the learning environment for our entire elementary community,” Vanyo said. “We look forward to her leadership as we seek a permanent candidate.”
After working 35 years in education, Dougherty retired as Northville’s superintendent earlier this year. Prior to leading the Northville schools, Dougherty previously was a music teacher and elementary school principal in the Greater Johnstown School District.
The 1972 graduate of Gloversville High School also has experience teaching in Gloversville schools, including part-time work as a choral and instrumental music teacher at Gloversville High School from 1985 to 1988.
