Tina Karuzas, the Schenectady woman who stabbed her downstairs neighbor to death in a dispute over loud music, was convicted Thursday of first-degree manslaughter. Karuzas, 28, was silent as the Schenectady County Court jury foreman read the verdict, but appeared emotional as she was led from the courtroom. It's too bad that the actions of an obnoxious neighbor led to someone's death. It's too bad it wasn't the obnoxious neighbor who lost her life. It's too bad there isn't more done to stop people from harming others' quality of life with their own selfish behavior. Unfortunately calling the police to handle noisy neighbors is seldom effective. If the police show up, they usually do nothing to prevent the noise from happening again. Consequently the situation escalates. Perhaps there should be a law that allows harassed neighbors to exterminate their harassers.
