SCHENECTADY The city police chief will stay on the job a little bit longer.
Chief Mark Chaires originally said he would retire Nov. 17. However, he has now informed the state retirement system that he will leave later in the year.
Public Safety Commissioner Wayne Bennett, who will lead the department until a new chief is hired, said Chaires has not announced the new date but will retire by the end of the year.
