Great Danes shock Huskies, 63-62, in Seattle

SEATTLE Senior point guard Mike Black scored 22 points, including the game-winning layup with three seconds left, to lift University at Albany to a 63-62 upset victory over the Washington Huskies in the second game of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament Tuesday night at Alaska Airlines Arena.
UAlbany called a timeout with eight seconds left to set up the game-winning play after the Huskies had taken a 62-61 lead on Abdul Gaddy’s layup with 29 seconds remaining. Seven-foot center Aziz N’D’iaye missed two free throws with 21 seconds remaining, but Gaddy grabbed the offensive rebound and banked it home.
UAlbany grabbed a 54-53 lead with 5:08 to go when junior center John Puk converted a dunk. The Danes stretched their lead to 56-53 with 2:49 remaining on a Sam Rowley layup off a feed from Peter Hooley.
But C.J. Wilcox nailed a jumper to cut the Washington deficit to 56-55 with 2:31 remaining.
Black’s pass set up Puk for a layup with 2:06 left to give the Danes a 58-55 edge.
Wilcox nailed a trey for the Huskies to knot the score at 58-58 with 1:41 remaining, and Andrew Andrews sank a pair of foul shots to push the Huskies on top again, 60-58.
Jacob Iati added 20 points for the 2-1 Great Danes. Gaddy finished with 16 points, while N’Diaye added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the 1-1 Huskies.
The Danes took a 31-27 halftime advantage, thanks to the outside shooting of Iati, who connected on four of seven shots from beyond the arc for 12 points. Black added 11 points in the first 20 minutes.
The Great Danes continue with the third round of the tournament against Missouri-Kansas City Saturday at Mohegan Sun.
