Reassessment planned for all Malta properties
MALTA Town Assessor Rae-Lyn Dussault will be conducting a townwide property reassessment in 2013, town officials have announced.
The town attempts to maintain assessment at the full market value of each property, and all properties are re-examined at least once every four years.
This year, property inventory surveys are going to be mailed to all residential property owners. Owners will be asked to verify the information the town has on their properties.
Starting in January, Dussault and her staff will be doing field inspections, examining properties from the road. Town officials said the people doing those inspections will be driving town-owned vehicles, and will have identification with them.
If assessments are being changed, notices will be mailed to property owners in April. Property owners will then have a chance to meet with the assessor to discuss any changes. Any additional adjustments will be made by May 1.
Dussault will hold public workshops to explain the process Saturday, Dec. 15, and Wednesday, Dec. 19. Interested people may call the assessors’ office for times and locations.
