Area colleges: Harpster's goal puts CSR women in final 16

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Senior Molly Harpster scored the first goal of her career in the 88th minute Sunday to give the College of Saint Rose women’s soccer team a 2-1 victory over American International College in the NCAA Div­ision II East Regional.

The Golden Knights (18-2-2) will play Dowling in the East Regional final (round of 16) Friday at West Chester (Pa.) University.

Harpster knocked in a header off a corner kick by freshman Amanda Vasquez to give the Golden Knights the win.

Junior Sydney Bond scored in the 23rd minute to give Saint Rose the initial lead, but the Yellow Jackets (13-4-2) tied the score on a goal by junior Caroline Boyce in the 57th minute.

AIC had an exellent chance to send the game into overtime, but Roxy Lee-Stewart’s blast with 20 seconds left sailed just over the crossbar.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. — Fifteenth-ranked Swarthmore did all of its scoring in the first half to eliminate the Engineers in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

The Engineers concluded ther season with a 10-6-6 record, while the Garnet improved to 16-2-2.

ELMIRA — Junior Scott Jarosz scored the only goal of the game early in the second half as the Gators won their first-ever ECAC Upstate champioinship.

Jarosz finished the season with 22 goals and 44 points for Sage (14-5-1).

ALBANY — Dominykas Milka had a double-double to help the Golden Knights to a win in the second day of the Saint Rose Tip-Off tournament.

Milka scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Saint Rose (2-0), which outscored Concorida (0-2), 49-24, in the second half.

Royals prevail

SCHENECTADY — Schenec­tady High School graduates Reece Jackson (23 points) and Terrance Blanchard (12) led Schenectady County Community College to an 83-78 victory over Clinton Com­munity College Saturday night.

It was incorrectly reported in The Sunday Gazette that Clinton won the game.

Volleyball

Saints triumph

LOUDONVILLE — Siena locked up the No. 2 seed for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tourn­ament with a 16-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-21 victory over Loyola.

Taylor Akana led the Saints with 19 kills and 21 digs, and Lesli Akeo collected 35 digs.

Siena (20-10) will face Canisius Saturday at Fairfield University in the conference tournament semifinals.
