— A Schenectady man convicted in a break-in at an Albany residence was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison.

Ernesto Santiago, 35, of Schenectady, was sentenced after an August trial on one count of second-degree attempted burglary.

Santiago was accused with Erica Thomas of breaking into the residence then trying to steal money from the resident. The resident was sleeping next to his 3-year-old daughter, woke up and began to struggle with Thomas, officials said.

Officials said Santiago hurled an object through a sliding glass door to come to Thomas’ aid while the victim called 911. Neither the victim nor his daughter were injured.

Thomas was convicted at her own trial of second-degree burglary and sentenced in September to 9 1/2 years in prison.
