Police say 9-year-old helped stop Schenectady father's attack on mother
SCHENECTADY A city man is accused of strangling his wife this week to the point she could no longer breathe, an attack interrupted only when their 9-year-old son left to get help, authorities said.
Dennis Tatnall, 53, of Norwood Avenue, was accused Tuesday of choking the woman and hitting her head on the floor multiple times at their residence the previous day, according to court papers. After he hit her head on the floor, according to papers, she screamed to her children for help, with Tatnall telling them not to go anywhere.
Their 9-year-old son, though, left to get help. Tatnall responded by choking the woman to the point where she could no longer breath, according to papers. The victim attempted to call police herself, but Tatnall threw the phone, breaking it, according to papers.
Tatnall faces one count of first-degree strangulation, a felony, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of fourth-degree criminal mischief, all misdemeanors.
