— A preliminary hearing in Town Court scheduled for Monday evening in the case of the 27-year-old Greenfield man charged with killing his mother was adjourned.

Joshua Mcwain, who lived with his mother, Carol Stanford, in the Daniels Corners mobile home park at 370 Daniels Road, was charged with second-degree murder for allegedly beating his mother to death with a blunt instrument Oct. 27 and then burying her body under a tool shed on their property.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department started questioning Mcwain last week after his mother hadn’t been seen in several days. He allegedly gave police a detailed statement about what he did to his mother.

He could face 25 years to life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder.
