Man admits causing Saratoga crash, will get five years in prison
BALLSTON SPA A Saratoga Springs man pleaded guilty today to first-degree reckless endangerment for grabbing the wheel of a car driven by his estranged wife and steering the car into the path of an oncoming police cruiser.
Aurelio R. Bidinost, 45, of 8 Leaward Way, Saratoga Springs, had previously pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and vehicular assault in connection with a Dec. 24, 2011, crash on Route 50 that left the woman driving another car with a broken back and other serious injuries.
Saratoga County Judge Jerry J. Scarano sentenced Bidinost to five years in state prison today with five years’ of post-release supervision on the assault charge and another sentence of one to three years on the reckless endangerment conviction. The sentences will run concurrently.
Bidinost was a passenger in his estranged wife’s car on the afternoon of Sept. 25 as she drove north on Route 9 in Saratoga Springs near Kayadeross Avenue West. He grabbed the steering wheel and pointed the car in the direction of an oncoming police car operated by city Police Officer Daniel Noeker.
Noeker took evasive action and narrowly missed a head-on collision, but there still was damage to both vehicles. The estranged wife told police she thought Bidinost was trying to kill her and the police officer, according to Saratoga County District Attorney James A. Murphy III.
