Abraham Lincoln continues to loom large in the American consciousness these days, due in no small measure to the efforts of Harold Holzer and Ken Burns. Holzer, perhaps the pre-eminent Lincoln authority today, and Burns, the documentary filmmaker who made “The Civil War,” have spent much of their professional lives trying to illuminate the life and legacy of our nation’s 16th president.
