Tero Saarinen in “Borrowed Light” at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in Becket, Mass. — This Finnish company, along with the Boston Camarata, will perform this sparse and ritualistic journey. Inspired by the songs and culture of the Shakers, this work is hypnotic. July 11 to 15.
New York City Ballet in “Romeo + Juliet” at Saratoga Performing Arts Center — A classic ballet that showcases the rich talents that bless New York City Ballet. Peter Martins’ choreography honors the lot and saturates the tragic love story with both daring and tenderness. July 18, 19 and 21.
Paul Taylor Dance Company at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington, Mass. — America’s greatest modern dance company will return for its fifth annual Mahaiwe engagement with the New England premiere of “Uncommitted,” a raw commentary on the shallowness of modern relationships. July 26 to 28.
Trey McIntyre Project at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival — This inspired contemporary dance company will return with its engaging works including “Leatherwing Bat” to music by Peter, Paul and Mary and “Blue Until June” to songs by Etta James. Aug. 8 to 12.
Joffrey Ballet at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival — This exceptional repertory ensemble will close out the 80th anniversary season at the Pillow by showing off its range, dancing the sumptuous “Bells” by Yuri Possokhov and Edwaard Liang’s “Age of Innocence.” Aug. 22 to 26.
Parsons Dance Company at PS/21, Chatham — Energetic, athletic and audience-friendly company will return for its seventh season with two new works — “Round My World” and “A Stray’s Lullaby.” Parsons will surely deliver straight-up, great dancing. Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.
