Ruth’s two-run single keys Raiders’ baseball victory

Kyle Ruth’s two-run single broke a sixth-inning tie, and Colonie went on to beat Albany, 6-1, Friday for its second non-league baseball win.

Colonie pitchers Corey Buckley and Phil DiNovo combined on a three-hitter, and Ruth, a freshman, kick-started a five-run outburst.

Colonie (2-1) has won two in a row since a season-opening loss to Lansingburgh. Albany made its season debut.

Dan Rittenhouse went 3-for-5 with a triple, double and four RBI, and Saratoga Springs rallied from two runs down to beat South Glens Falls, 13-3.

Zach Forbes and Devin Coffey had three hits apiece for the Blue Streaks (1-0), with Forbes driving in two runs and Coffey scoring three. Pat Mulcahy hit a two-run double for the Bulldogs (0-1).

Rensselaer freshman Will Brooking hurled a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts, and the Rams blanked Duanesburg, 3-0, to spoil the Eagles’ season debut.

Lou Berthoty had a double, single and an RBI for the Rams (2-0). Henry Holmes broke up Brooking’s no-hit bid with a seventh-inning double.

Randy Tutunjian had a triple and double, Alex Lilac had a pair of singles and both knocked in a run as Hoosick Falls beat Maple Hill, 8-2, in the season opener for both teams.

Matt Seeberger doubled for Maple Hill.

Matt Dallas and Mavist Frederick combined on a two-hitter, and Darren Conte had two singles and three RBI in Hudson’s 7-4, eight-inning win over Waterford-Halfmoon.

Frederick had two doubles, and Jared Gardner had an RBI single for the Fordians in the opener for both squads.

Witches roll

Winning pitcher Rachel Al­brecht struck out seven and had a triple, single and three RBI, and Greenwich piled up 19 hits in an 18-4 non-league win at Waterford-Halfmoon.

Mariah Linnett had a double and two singles, and Sam Linnett had three singles for the Witches (1-0), who reached the state Class C semifinals last season. Christina Wilson had a triple and double for the Fordians (1-1), and Ashley Le­febvre knocked in two runs with a pair of singles.

CBA, AA win

John Bassett scored four goals and assisted on five others, and reigning Big 10 champ Christian Brothers Academy began its season with a 13-5 non-league win at Bethlehem.

Griffin Fisher and Andy Curro both had two goals and an assist for the Brothers. Liam Christiansen and John Gostolla scored two goals apiece for the Eagles.

Matt Balter scored six goals, and netminder Max Ciavacco played shutout ball over the final three quarters as Albany Academy defeated Lansingburgh, 11-1.
