Police: Drugs found in car during Thruway stop; 3 men charged
BETHLEHEM Three men were charged with felony drug counts after state police found cocaine, heroin and marijuana in their vehicle following a traffic stop on the Thruway early Monday morning.
Charged were Herberto Nadal Osorio, 20, of Williams Street, Amsterdam; Christopher J. Vazquez, 20, of Schenectady; and Jose H. Ramirez, 19, of Puerto Rico. They were each charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and Vazquez was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.
The three men were stopped at 2:30 a.m. in Bethlehem for a traffic violation. State police Investigator John Kelly said the men were traveling to Schenectady and were allegedly carrying 41.5 grams of cocaine, 1,050 decks of heroin and five grams of marijuana. Kelly said a deck is an small envelope containing approximately $10 worth of heroin, and that 1,050 decks has an approximate street value of $10,500.
“Heroin is making a comeback in the area because it is so cheap,” Kelly said.
He was unable to say whether the three men belonged to a drug gang or were operating on their own. “That is still to be determined,” he said.
The three men were arraigned in the Bethlehem Town Court and sent to Albany County Jail with no bail set.
