— TROY — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute men’s hockey team will host NCAA Frozen Four finalist Ferris State in a two-game series to open the 2012-13 regular season, the Engineers announced Monday.

The games against the Bulldogs, who beat Union, 3-1, in the semifinals April 5 before losing to Boston College, 4-1, in the championship game two days later, will be played Oct. 12-13 at 7 p.m.

The Engineers open the ECAC Hockey portion of their schedule Nov. 2 when they host Union at 7 p.m., which will also be the Black Friday jersey night. The two teams play the following night at Messa Rink. The two teams will play a non-conference game Jan. 26 at the Times Union Center.

RPI will play a 4 p.m. New Year’s Eve game against Sacred Heart at Houston Field House.

RPI will make two trips to the state of Minnesota. The Engineers will be at Minnesota State Oct. 19-20 and at St. Cloud State Dec. 27-28.
