AmeriCorps crew to assist flood victims
WATERFORD & HALFMOON Seven Ameri-Corps volunteers will assist Waterford Long-Term Care Coalition volunteers helping flood victims clean up and repair property and homes damaged last August by tropical storms Irene and Lee.
The AmeriCorps and other volunteers will help about 40 families who still have unmet needs from last summer’s storms.
The volunteers will work between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, through Friday, Aug. 3, and then Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 6 and 7.
Additional volunteers are needed to help between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on any of those scheduled work days.
Volunteers will meet at Grace Church Hall at 34 Third St. to receive project assignments.

The Waterford Area Long-Term Care Coalition has been combining the efforts of religious, governmental, nonprofit and voluntary agencies in identifying the unmet needs of people impacted by last summer’s storms.
More than 300 people were impacted and more than 180 homes were damaged or destroyed in Waterford.
Vanessa Gleason of Waterford and the Rev. Kathy Alonge-Coons have been elected to serve as WALCC co-chairwomen.
