Wrestling: Tangora advances in Fargo

— Chris Tangora was the only Capital Region wrestler to advance to the second day of competition in the Cadet freestyle division of the ASICS/Vaughan Junior & Cadet National Champ-onships.

Tangora, who recently completed his freshman year at Bethlehem Central High, bounced back from an opening-round loss to score a pair of pins at 195 pounds.

Shenendehowa’s Jesse Porter, who placed fourth in Greco-

Roman earlier in the week, went two-and-out at 132, as did Matt Morris of Bethlehem at 113.

Columbia’s Kyle Greene went 1-2 at 132, Galway’s Jay Oakes was 2-2 at 138, and Columbia’s Angelo Kress dropped two matches after winning his first two at 152.

The Cadets wrestle another round today, with the Juniors opening their tournament.

Among the Capital Region

entries in the Junior event are Shenendehowa’s Jordan Maynard, Nick Kelley, David Almaviva and Levi Ashley; Greco-Roman All-American and LaSalle Institute grad Connor Sutton; and state high school 285 runner-up El Shaddai Gilmore-VanHoesen of Columbia.

Shenendehowa’s Alexis Porter, who won a pair of titles earlier in the week, went 4-1 as New York finished seventh in the Junior Women’s duals.

Kelsey Gray of Fonda went 3-2.
