Albany welfare cheat sent to prison

The woman who admitted to illegally taking nearly $100,000 in welfare benefi ts then later appealed, saying her guilty plea was coerced, began serving her sentence Thursday after losing her appeal, officials said. Angela Lopez, 37, of Vanessa Court, Colonie, surrendered to authorities Tuesday. She was sentenced last year to two to six years in state prison, but remained free pending appeal.
