Amsterdam man accused of stealing property from vehicles
AMSTERDAM A city resident faces charges after police say he stole property from several vehicles.
Richard L. Bedell, 23, of 28 Lincoln Ave., was charged Wednesday with resisting arrest, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief, all misdemeanors.
Officers received reports of someone going through vehicles on Brookside Avenue.
Officers conducted foot patrols, noticed Bedell, and attempted to box him in on upper Brookside Avenue.
Bedell ran down lower Brookside Avenue and was placed into custody after a brief pursuit and struggle.
He was found to be carrying a bag full of stolen property, police say.
After officers checked several unlocked vehicles that were allegedly entered by Bedell, police were able to locate the owner of a car stereo that Bedell had in his possession. Police also located a woman who said she witnessed Bedell break the passenger side mirror on her vehicle.
Residents are asked to contact police if they believe they are missing property. Police also are reminding resident to keep their doors locked.
