— Four members of a Loudonville family have been arrested for allegedly taking and using credit cards belonging to their elderly and disabled relatives, police say.

Colonie police were made aware recently that an 85- and 81-year-old husband and wife believed they were victimized by family members who used their credit card to purchase at least $8,000 worth of merchandise over at least the last six months.

The total is still being investigated and could be as much as $12,000, police say.

The victims are both deaf and the wife is blind. The defendants are the victims' daughter, son-in-law, and two grandsons.

The defendants prevented the victims from realizing the crime by intercepting the credit card statements, police said.

The defendants were arraigned in Colonie Justice Court and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 bail.

All defendants listed their home address as 10 Bertha Terrace, Loudonville.

Charged were Margaret L. Ryan, 51, Patrick J. Ryan, 58, Kevin B. Ryan, 20, and Daniel P. Ryan, 23.

All were charged with criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor. Margaret; Patrick and Kevin face an additional charge of conspiracy, a misdemeanor.

Subsequent to those arrests, Margaret and Kevin Ryan returned to the victims' residence on Thursday and were arrested for violating the order of protection. They were charged with criminal contempt, a misdemeanor, and were issued appearance tickets and released.
