Christmas: Don’t confuse the commercial season with the traditional one

I think I have it straight. Commercial Christmas begins before Halloween and ends on Christmas Eve. My traditional Christmas begins on Christmas Eve and ends on Twelfth Night.

We also celebrate Hanukkah in our house. My husband has observed 91 Hannukahs and I have observed 85 Christmases. We know which is which.

Merry Christmas to Ms. Arlene Shako [Dec. 5], Ms. Charlotte Distel [Dec. 10], Mr. Vincent Carelli [Dec. 17] and the Gazette for printing these letters. As for Mr. Richard McMahan [Dec. 14], whatever holiday he’s observing, I hope it’s a happy one.

Seniors appreciate the holiday treat

I would like to shout out a great big thank you to all the businesses and volunteers that provided the Schenectady County senior citizens with the “Holiday Tour of Lights” on Dec. 19.

I can’t remember the list of all, but Holiday Inn, Shop-Rite, CDTA buses, Catholic Charities buses and many, many more businesses were involved.

A special thanks to former Schenectady Mayor Al Jurczynski for all the organizing of the event. We had a wonderful time and the pizza and cookies were great.

Merry Christmas to one and all and see you next year.

We could use more people like Al Jurczynski.
