Council: Teach Lake George boaters to inspect their own boats
QUEENSBURY An outdoor sports group is asking officials to hold off on a proposal to mandate boat inspections at Lake George.
The Post-Star reports that the Warren County Conservation Council asked the county Board of Supervisors to teach boat owners to inspect their own boats instead.
Jack Currie of Queensbury said anglers are concerned about the time and money a mandatory inspection plan would entail.
Lake George Supervisor Dennis Dickinson is one of the strongest proponents of mandatory boat inspections. He says invasive species like Asian clams and watermilfoil will ruin 32-mile-long Lake George if effective steps aren’t taken.
Bolton Supervisor Ronald Conover said voluntary inspection programs have been tried in other states and haven’t worked.
