Be careful what you wish for in Saratoga County

We were disappointed, but hardly surprised, to see the politicians of Saratoga Springs and Saratoga County officially throw their hats into the casino gambling ring this week by asking the state to open one of its seven proposed casinos in the city. Instead of slamming the taxpayers like tax crazed Schenectady County in Saratoga we are looking to more creative revenue generation. Casino gambling means high paying jobs and tourism that this area desperately needs. Where is the editorial on high taxes forcing 700 foreclosures in the City of Schenectady?

The positive way to impact the city and surrounding towns is for the casino to NOT offer overnight accomidations. No hotel should be built on the property. Employ frequent busses to surrounding motels and hotels to and from the casino. Also supply busses with stops to down town, the lake and other popular destinations. Then the decision on making the casino a one stop destination will not be such a negative community one.
No to overnight accomidations at the casino.
