Girls' basketball: Tartans defeat Patriots without Broadhead

Allison Casey scored off a rebound with 1.2 seconds to play Tuesday as Scotia-Glenville — playing without three-time league MVP Cassie Broadhead — beat Broadalbin-Perth, 34-32, in a Foothills Council game.

Broadhead injured her left shoulder blocking a shot in the Lady Tartans’ previous game, against Hudson Falls. The Brigham Young University-bound senior is awaiting the results of an MRI to determine the extent of the injury.

“It looks like she’s probably out at least a month, with rehab and getting the strength back,” said Scotia coach Regan Gatta. “It could be longer. We won’t know until she gets the results.”

After senior Kaitlin Wood made two free throws to pull the Lady Patriots into a tie with 5.8 seconds left, Scotia went the length of the court to get the winning basket and remain unbeaten (3-0, 4-0).

Maqala MacDonald got the ball to Katelyn Dwyer, whose shot was rebounded by Casey.

Broadhead is the fourth key Scotia payer to be sidelined by injury. Senior forward Rachel Cox was injured in the Class A soccer final, senior point guard Angie DiJohn suffered a knee injury in a preseason scrimmage and sophomore Maddy Carroll left Tuesday’s game with an ankle injury.

The Rowland sisters accounted for 32 points as unbeaten Shaker beat Averill Park, 56-39, in the Suburban Council. Madison Rowland led the way with 20 points, with Merrick Rowland adding 12.

Alison Nunziato had 12 for 2-2 Averill Park.

Alyssia Marsal scored 13 points, and freshman Carly Boland added 10 as 3-0 Shenendehowa topped Guilderland, 41-34. Sophomore Zibby Eckhardt led the 2-2 Lady Dutch with 10 points.

Jaclyn Welch threw in five three-pointers in a 23-point game as 2-2 Colonie rolled past Niskayuna, 60-27. Nicole Riddick added 12 points, and Kristin Paeglow took down eight rebounds.

Bethlehem remained unbeaten, getting 29 points from sophomore Gabby Giacone in beating Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, 95-36.

Naslasja Johnston scored 16 points as Columbia beat Ballston Spa, 34-20.

Emia Willingham-Hurst hit for 25 points, and Mylah Chandler added 13 as 4-0 Albany beat Amsterdam, 68-18, in the Big 10.

Courtney Lane and Shiann Coons both hit for 18 points, and Shayone Foulks added another 16 as Bishop Maginn beat Notre Dame-Bishop Giibbons, 65-41, in another Big 10 game.

Sarah DelVecchio’s 14 points led the Lady Knights.

Hailee Metzold and Alexandra Cardinal combined for 29 points, getting two apiece in the final minute as Schalmont edged Mechanicville, 39-35, in the Colonial Council. Metzold finished with 15 points and Cardinal added 14 as the 3-1 Lady Sabres pulled into a tie with Watervliet atop the Liberty Division with Watervliet.

Courtney Pingelski led Mechanicville with 16 points.

Holy Names handed Watervliet its first loss of the season, 56-46, in a meeting of teams that entered unbeaten in the Colonial.

Hannah Friend scored half of her 24 points in the fourth quarter for 4-0 Holy Names. Ailayia Demand had 25 points for 3-2 Watervliet.

Nerea Brajac scored 15 points, and Isabella Vanelli had 13 as 4-1 Cohoes beat Fonda-Fultonville, 69-56.

Monica Derby had a career-high 20 points and took down 10 rebounds for the Lady Braves, who also got 17 points from Emily Parslow.

Anna Norris hit a three-pointer with 10 seconds to play to give Voorheesville a 34-32 win over Ichabod Crane. Anna Feller had 12 of her 14 points in the final quarter for the Lady Blackbirds.

Cassia Gravesande scored 15 points as Albany Academy topped Lansingburgh, 40-35.

Makayla McCormick scored 16 points, hitting four three-pointers, and Liz Harvey added 15 as Berne-Knox-Westerlo beat Sharon Springs, 59-19, to remain unbeaten in the Western Athletic Conference.

Cassidy Chapko’s 15 points helped Wasaren League leader Hoosic Valley beat Schuylerville, 46-21.
