Mechanicville man gets probation for violating Leandra’s Law
BALLSTON SPA A Mechanicville man who was accused of driving drunk with a child unsecured in the back seat was sentenced Tuesday to five years’ probation.
James J. Ellsworth III, 28, of 137 Saratoga Ave., Apt. 1, also was fined $1,000 and ordered to have an ignition interlock device installed on his car.
He pleaded guilty in August to violating Leandra’s Law, felony aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle.
Police in June said they saw Ellsworth drive into a parking area in Stillwater with a child in the back of the vehicle not wearing a safety belt. As they spoke with him, officers realized he was intoxicated.
Also this week in Saratoga County Court:
• Kara Harrington, 33, of 6D Kirby Road, Saratoga Springs, pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony DWI. She was arrested in October in Malta.
• Shawn G. Skidmore, 28, of 94 Nelson Ave. Extension, Saratoga Springs, was sentenced Monday to time already served in jail and five years’ probation for a drunken-driving incident from June in Saratoga Springs. He pleaded guilty to a felony DWI charge in October.
• William A. McDonald, 26, of Glens Falls, was sentenced Monday to time already served in jail and five years’ probation for a third-degree robbery charge. He pleaded guilty in October to the charge, which stemmed from a September incident in Moreau.
