High school basketball: Hanifin helps Hilltoppers rally for 55-51 victory

Chris Hanifin scored a season-high 21 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, and Fort Plain rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Chatham, 55-51, in Saturday’s Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament at Waterford-Halfmoon.

Joe Ray scored 12 points to help the Hilltoppers boost their record to 3-0. Travis Overby paced Chat­ham with 20.

Catskill built a 21-point lead in the first quarter and breezed to a 61-31 win over New Lebanon in the Coaches vs. Cancer tourney.

Jordan Brantley scored 12 points for the Cats, and Nigel Gray and Pat Sullivan both added 10. Mark McCarty scored 12 points for New Lebanon.

Stephanie Rice poured in 23 points, and Rachel Gamache contributed 12 as the Duanesburg girls opened their season with a 45-35 win over Chatham at the Coaches vs. Cancer event.

Alyssa Keeler led Chatham with 16 points.

Alexis McComb hit for 19 points, and Taconic Hills used a 14-3, fourth-quarter charge to upend Waterford-Halfmoon, 40-38.

Tara Clapper scored nine for Taconic Hills. Abby Fountain totaled 18 for the Fordians, and Carly Brazil chipped in with 11.

Bishop Maginn was another Coaches vs. Cancer winner, beating Emma Willard behind Shiann Coon’s 24 points, 52-26.

Courtney Lane and Caitlin Hups scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Bishop Maginn. Natalie Kiley-Bergen topped Emma Willard with eight.

Hope Cerasulo delivered 14 points to lift Johnstown past Amsterdam, 36-33, in a non-league game.

Christiana Johnson scored 11 points for Amsterdam.

Edmeston went on a 28-9 run in the middle quarters and beat Sharon Springs, 45-26, to earn consol­ation honors at the Richfield Springs Tournament. Renee Handy scored 11 points for Sharon Springs.
