— A fuel delivery truck overturned on the Schoharie Turnpike this afternoon, injuring the driver and causing it to leak a substantial amount of oil onto the roadway.

Fire Coordinator John Nuzback said the leak is continuing and emergency responders are trying to secure the tank. He said it appears the driver lost control of the truck after it struck a patch of ice in the roadway.

"It's slick out here," he said of the conditions.

Cold rain has been falling intermittently throughout the day. Conditions have gotten icy in the western part of the county as the temperature drops.

Scanner reports suggested about 50 gallons of a 2,600-gallon tank had leaked. Nuzback estimated there was about a gallon leaking per minute and officials from the state Department of Environmental Conservation are on the scene to assist.

The area where the tanker overturned is near the hamlet of Quaker Street. Nuzback said the spill doesn't appear to be near any creeks.

NYSDEC to assist? They just come to be overbearing, obnoxious and try to see how much of a fine should be assessed.
