SPAC to start announcing 2013 schedule next week
COLONIE The Saratoga Performing Arts Center will start announcing events and programming for its 2013 season Dec. 13.
SPAC’s website, www.spac.org, will post information about artists, works and events that will be part of next year’s season, along with videos, interviews and reviews about the artists. The “Building of a Season” series started last year and boosted traffic to the arts center’s website by almost 60 percent, to 1 million visitors.
The feature highlights the diversity of SPAC’s lineup, which includes ballet and modern dance, orchestra and chamber and popular music. Marcia White, SPAC president and executive director, compared the season’s offerings to “a jigsaw puzzle in its complexity and interconnectedness.”
“In this digital age, the series is also a powerful tool for educating people about the classical performing arts, which is a key component of SPAC’s mission,” she said in a statement.
At a meeting of the SPAC board of directors Thursday at the Desmond Hotel & Conference Center, officials released the following dates:
• Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival, June 29-30
• New York City Ballet, July 9-13
• National Ballet of Canada, July 16-18
• Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, July 24-25
• Philadelphia Orchestra, Aug. 7-24
• Saratoga Chamber Music Festival, Aug. 4-20
• Live at the Algonquin Cabaret Series, July 19 to Aug. 3
The board also approved an $8.4 million budget for 2013 and confirmed that SPAC will break even for 2012. Programming costs went up $400,000, or 10 percent, this year compared with last year, but SPAC drew in more money from the jazz festival, Live Nation and membership revenue.
