Cougars turn aside Falcons

Zach Folts scored 15 points, and Canajoharie held off a late comeback bid by Northville to post 44-41 Western Athletic Conference North Division win Wednesday night.

Kevin Shannon notched 11 points for the Cougars (1-0, 2-1). Nick Jonas came off the bench to score 11 for the Falcons (0-1, 0-2).

Mike Cannizzo and Nico Dumas scored nine points apiece, and Mechanicville (2-0) used a 21-7 run over the middle quarters to beat Mekeel Christian Academy, 35-33, in a non-league game.

Caleb Stewart paced the Lions (0-2) with 16 points, and Courtney Penson chipped in with 10. Mekeel was down by 11 points in the fourth quarter before closing the gap.

Ralph Erickson forced overtime with a last-second three-pointer, and Dominic Razzano and Elijah Burns sank threes in the extra session as LaSalle beat defending Big 10 champion Troy, 67-65, Tuesday night.

Dom Caputo scored eight points in both the second and fourth quarters and finished with 24 in leading Schalmont past Hudson Falls, 58-52, at the Tartan Basketball Tourn­ament Tuesday. Lucas Curtin added 15 for the Sabres (1-1).

Girls

Lindsay Mannion had 16 points, eight rebounds and five steals as Maple Hill beat Coxsackie-Athens, 62-27, for its 99th consecutive Pat­roon Conference win.

Bella Nelson added 12 points for Maple Hill (3-0, 3-0), which travels to Chatham Friday. Samantha St. Denis scored 11 points for Coxsackie-Athens.

Haley Kilmartin had 13 points to go with 14 rebounds, six steals and four blocks, and Fort Plain began its Western Athletic Conference North Division schedule by beating Mayfield, 43-28.

Abby Boyer led the Hilltoppers (1-0, 3-0) with 21 points.

Dainera Veeder scored 13 points, and Jenelle Dillenbeck added eight as Canajoharie soared past Northville, 45-23, in a WAC North Div­ision game.

Charlotte Kalkbrenner scored seven points for Northville.

Erica Chase scored nine points and Galway beat Saratoga Catholic, 38-25, for its first victory after three defeats.

Carly Brazil scored 18 points, and Waterford-Halfmoon posted a second-quarter shutout as part of its 66-14 Central Hudson Valley League win over Loudonville Christian.

Abby Fountain and Emily Aubin scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the 3-0 Fordians.

Skyler Girard scored seven of her 22 points in a 21-8 third-quarter run which propelled Glens Falls over Hoosick Falls, 65-50, in a non-league game.

Meresa Mason scored six of her 18 points in the Indians’ key spurt. Frankie Pearson sparked the Panthers with 16 points, and Rachel Pine had 10.
