Cross country: Blue Streaks fifth

PORTLAND, Ore. — Taylor Driscoll placed ninth among 194 runners, and Saratoga Springs was fifth best among the 22 girls’ teams at the Nike Cross Nationals at Portland Meadows Race Track.

Competing as the Kinetic Running Club, Saratoga scored 218 points, while Fayetteville-Manlius prevailed with 54.

Driscoll finished the five-kilometer race in 19:45, and was followed by Saratoga teammates Olivia Morrow (47, 20:42), Keelin Hollowood (48, 20:42), Sarah Morin (125, 22:06), Spencer Hayes (145, 22:43), Maddie Samuell (146, 22:43) and Shania Hayward (172, 23:09). Saratoga prev­iously won the New York Federation championship and took second at the state public school meet behind Fayetteville-Manlius.

The Saratoga boys were 12th in the team standings. Blue Streak runners were Brent Freestone (44, 18:07), Gavin Gaynor (74, 18:22), Aidan Tooker (86, 18:31), Jay Navin (111, 18:50), Evan Quinones (112, 18:52), Travis Briggs (136, 19:09) and Joe Verro (171, 19:46). Saratoga was victorious at the Federation and state public school championships.

Philo Germano of Albany placed 82nd (18:26).
