Better idea, Beryl, is to stop patronizing horse racing. More horses are bred in the hopes of producing one champion. Those that don't make it are slaughtered.

Re: the letter "Romney could have done better...." It's possible that the selected GOP VP candidate could sway the election toward President Obama, but if Gov. Susana Martinez was selected, it would have more than likely resulted in Obama's re-election. I moved to NY from New Mexico, so I know some things about her. Martinez was a district attorney in Dona Ana County (Las Cruces) just before she became governor. She has no practical governing experience plus, her paternal grandparents were illegal immigrants. The left would have had a field day with that. Plus most Hispanos do not like her. The White House would have jumped in joy if she was the pick.

Beryl Dickson ("Nothing very winning about life of a racehorse") urges us to contact our Congressmen and urge them to vote to prevent the slaughter of horses in the USA.

What? So the horses can end up on farms by people too poor to care for them properly? And die slow, painful deaths?

No. Allow the slaughter and once again the packaging for human consumption, so horses are killed instantly and we increase our exports. Any animal, other than human, should be legal to consume. Even my dog, if I so desire.
