The women began visiting Wiawaka Holiday House in 1903. They were mostly young factory workers from the Capital Region, many of them single, many of them immigrants. The house, on the eastern shore of Lake George, provided them with respite, peaceful surroundings and fresh air. Times have changed, but women still visit Wiawaka every summer, seeking quiet, communion and a break from the pressures of everyday life.
