School baseball: Mohonasen on a roll, 6-2
Vinny Struffolino pitched a five-hitter, and Jordan Cotton and Cameron McDermott both drove in two runs as Mohonasen beat Glens Falls Thursday, 6-2, for its third straight win.
McDermott went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, Matt Laverty hit a double and Tyler Beck added two hits and an RBI for a Mohonasen (3-2) team that won four games last season.
James Rizzo doubled for the Indians.
Eighth-grader Dylan Klock hurled a three-hitter with eight strikeouts, and St. Johnsville scored six times in the seventh inning to beat Cherry Valley-Springfield, 7-1.
Peyton Johnson and Rob Jaikin hit two out singles in the Saints’ seventh and, after a walk, James Looman broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI bunt single. Nate Trumble hit a two-run single later in the inning.
Kevin Connolly struck out 11 batters to lead Voorheesville to a 7-3 win over Chatham. Mike Young singled and drove in two runs, while Everett Hart singled and drove in one for the Blackbirds (4-1).
Cole Gleason doubled for Chatham.
Hoosic Valley hurler Joe Rooney struck out eight in five innings of work, allowing one hit in a 5-0 win over Waterford-Halfmoon.
Ryland VanPraag singled twice and scored once for Hoosic Valley, and J.T. Sawyer tripled and drove in two runs.
Waterford’s Dave Fletcher singled.
Witches win title
Greg Scott scattered four hits and fanned seven, and Nick Goodman had two singles and an RBI to lead Greenwich over Salem, 4-0, in the championship game of the Witches’ annual tournament.
John Stewart also had two singled for Greenwich (6-0).
Jason Flynn spun a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts, and Scott hit a go-ahead two-run double in the fifth in Greenwich’s 3-1 first-round win against Rensselaer.
Flynn had three hits and drove in an insurance run in the sixth.
Salem beat Schoharie in its opening round game, 15-11. Trevor Norman had three of Schoharie’s hits including a double.
Rensselaer beat Schoharie in the consolation game, 6-0.
