Plainsmen make big comeback in fourth

Kyle Marr scored five goals, and Shenendehowa rallied in the final quarter to edge Ballston Spa, 10-9, in a Suburban Council lacrosse game Tuesday.

The two-time defending Section II Class A champion Plainsmen outscored the Scotties, 4-1, in the final frame to win their second straight game.

Mike Jenkins had a goal and three assists for Shenendehowa (2-1, 2-1). John McDonald paced Ballston Spa (0-2, 0-2) with five goals and an assist, and Mark Leslie had two goals and an assist.

Colonie (1-1, 2-1) built a 5-1 halftime lead and held off Bethlehem, 6-5.

Mike Mineau scored three goals for Colonie, and Mike Metzger totaled two goals and three assists. John Gosstola paced the Eagles (0-2, 0-3) with two goals and an assist, and John Baynes notched two goals.

Tim Leahey fired in four goals, and Steve Farrell had a goal and three points, to lift Shaker (2-1, 3-1) past Saratoga Springs, 8-6.

J.R. Campbell had two goals and an assist for the Blue Streaks (0-3, 0-3), and Anthony Zabielski and Danny Castello both connected twice.

Tyler Mello, Matt Girard and Nate Spilman combined for four goals and five assists, and Glens Falls (3-2) won its third game in four starts, 8-5, over non-league foe Schenectady.

Jordan Zaman had two goals and two assists for the Patriots (0-5), and Cody Schnepf added a pair of goals.

Brian Schneider’s two goals and three points topped LaSalle (2-0) in a 7-6 non-league win over Columbia. Sean Kelly had a hat trick for the Blue Devils (0-2).

Girls

Two-time All-American Kayla Treanor scored four goals and had a hand in eight, and Niskayuna built a big halftime lead in a 14-10 Suburban Council win over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake.

Catherine Sexton collected four goals and three assists for Niskayuna (4-0, 4-0). Nicole Beardsley sparked BH-BL (1-2, 2-2) with five goals and an assist, and Jordyn Godfrey contributed three goals.

Kelly Wall picked up three goals and two assists, netminder Makala Foley posted a second-half shutout, aand Shenendehowa (2-2, 2-2) made it two in a row with a 13-1 victory over Ballston Spa (0-4, 0-4).

Lauren Smith produced five goals, Julia Lennon scored four goals and Maddie Devine had a hat trick, and each added an assist, as Shaker (4-0, 4-0) turned back Saratoga Springs, 17-10.

Emily Lange led the Blue Streaks with four goals and an assist, and Bri Sirianni and Hannah Wise both had two goals.

Molly O’Bryan scored three goals, and Jackie St St. Pierre blanked Columbia (1-2, 1-2) in the second half, as Averill Park (2-2, 2-2) rolled to a 13-2 victory.

Tiana McGuire scored four goals and Cara Zanta added three, as Scotia-Glenvile beat Schenectady, 12-9, in a non-league game.

Katelyn Dwyer added a two-goal, four-assist game for the Lady Tartans.

Kia Ference scored four goals for the Lady Patriots.

Baseball

Spartans win

Cody Mooney threw five shutout innings, and Tom Moore drove in three runs, as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake beat Schenectady, 11-1, in a non-league game.

Rob Knightes added three hits and knocked in two runs to help the Spartans, who also got two hits and two RBI from Jayson Sullivan in picking up their first win of the season.

Greg Dobies had two of Schen-ectady’s five hits.

Kevin VanValkenburg went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs, and Sean Thaxter had three hits and three RBI to power Cobleskill-Richmondville past Canajoharie, 8-4.

Joe Winsman had two hits for the Cougars, Zack Sweet drove in two runs and scored three, helping Fort Plain get past Dolgeville, 10-1.

Chris Hanifin, Jesse Heroth and Harold Dettmer combined on a four-hitter for the 2-1 Hilltoppers.

Ron Morello drove in six runs, and both Joe Rooney and J.T. Sawyer finished with four RBI, as 5-0 Hoosic Valley topped Mechanicville, 22-5.

Sam DeCelle had a double and triple, and knocked in two runs for the Red Raiders.

Kyle Derepentigny, Cody Cater and Tyler Becker all drove in a pair of runs to lead Cohoes past Coxsackie-Athens, 9-8.

Lucas Godlewski threw a two-hitter and struck out 12 as Little Falls beat St. Johnsville, 18-0.

Logan King and Jake Hill both drove in a run as Stillwater topped Galway, 5-3.

Shane Marshall hit a triple, and Adam Berlin had two hits for the Eagles.

Courtney Pensen and Dan Al-tieri both had two hits, scored two runs and drove in a pair as Mekeel Christian Academy got past Waterford-Halfmoon, 11-8.

Corie Vautrin hit a triple and scored two runs for the Fordians.

Lady Bills win

Alyssa LaLonde fired a three-hitter and struck out 12, as Johnstown beat Albany, 12-3, for its first win of the season.

Morgan Colasanti had a three-run triple, and Mary Beth DeCuyke had two hits and drove in three runs for the 1-3 Lady Bills.

Gina Torres homered for Albany.

Meghan Heck had three simgles and drove in a pair of runs as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake beat Schenectady, 5-0, to go to 3-0 on the season. Erica Colucci, Emily Rutkey and Courtney Haff combined on a two-hitter for the Lady Spartans.

Sam Mahoski doubled for one of Schenectady’s base hits.

Winning pitcher Kristi Burgess, Jeannine Rodriguez and Morgan Rumpf all drive in two runs as Saratoga Springs. topped Queensbury, 7-2.

Courtney Gumprecht had a single, double and triple, driving in four runs, and Maddie Dupuis had a double, three singles and five RBI as Cohoes blanked Waterford-Halfmoon, 21-0. Courtney Gardner had two of Waterford’s three hits.

Sarah Heimbach had four hits and four RBI, Dani DeGregory had five singles and three RBI, and Abby Dusha had four singles and knocked in two runs as Greenwich topped Lansingburgh, 17-2, in the second round of the Lady Knights’ tournament.
