Hiss, Spartans hold off Bison

Trevor Hiss scored both of his goals in the fourth quarter, and Austin Clark finished with three goals, as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake held off Shaker, 12-10, in a Suburban Council boys’ lacrosse game Thursday.

Shaker’s Joe Chiara tied the game at nine with 7:30 left before Hess sandwiched goals around a tally by Clark in a game-deciding run.

Hiss added three assists, and Nick Vincent had two goals and two assists for the Spartans (2-0, 3-0). Chiara had three goals and five assists to spark Shaker (1-1, 2-1).

Luke Goldstock piled up eight goals and nine points, and Niskayuna defeated Ballston Spa, 15-6, in the Scotties’ season debut. Lucas Maloney had four goals and two assists for the Silver Warriors (2-0, 2-0).

Kyle Marr tied a Shenendehowa record with eight goals in a 10-point performance, and Mike Jenkins had two goals and four assists, as Shenendehowa (1-1, 1-1) outlasted Saratoga Springs, 16-13.

Cody Dyer fired in three goals, Patrick Wood and Connor McLachlan both had two goals and two assists, and Connor Drislane recorded a goal and four assists in Guilderland’s 10-4 win over Bethlehem.

Bryant Gibbons pumped in three goals and Skyler Saunders had a goal and four assists as Cambridge (1-0, 3-1) opened its Wasaren League schedule with a 7-3 win over Voorheesville.

Morgan Cornell and Luke Pum­iglia both scored three goals in Schuylerville’s 10-7 win over Lansingburgh.

Kendall Cietek led a balanced attack with two goals and two assists, and the Guilderland girls went to 4-0 with a 12-2 Suburban Council win over Bethlehem.

Ritchie Assini scored seven goals and assisted on two more, and Catherine Sexton collected two goals and six assists to propel Niskayuna past Ballston Spa, 21-2.

Morgan Lionarons and Sarah Laranjo split six goals, and Averill Park rallied for an 8-7 win over Colonie.

Lydia Knapp worked for seven goals and two assists to lift Glens Falls over Emma Willard, 15-6, in a non-league game.

Fordians win

Billy Matin hit a two-run double, and Mike Dilbone threw a five-hitter with eigh strikeouts, as Waterford-Halfmoon (1-1, 1-2) downed New Lebanon, 14-1, in the Central Hudson Valley League.

Dilbone allowed an unearned run and struck out eight.

Freshman Jonny Vicciarelli got his first varsity win, and Rob Jaikin had three hits and four RBI as St. Johnsville beat Northville, 23-2, in the Western Athletic Conference.

R.J. Pingitore had three doubles and drove in three runs as Broadalbin-Perth topped Mayfield, 9-0, in a non-league game.

Alex Chandler scored five runs and drove in three, and both Wellman Loviza and Jack Herman contributed three hits and four RBI, as Saratoga Springs beat Duanesburg, 24-3.

Phil Orsini worked six innings to get his first varsity win as Averill Park upended Tamarac, 8-1.

Andrew Jenkins drove in the winning run as Corinth edged Hudson Falls, 4-3. Greg Kelley doubled and drove in two runs for the 3-0 Tom­ahawks.

Softball

McCabe lifts Spartans

Juliana McCabe belted a three-run home run in the fourth inning to lift Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake past Saratoga Springs, 5-4, in the Suburban Council.

Winning pitcher Ashley Agan added a double to the six-hit Burnt Hills’ total. Makayla Dowd hit a triple, and Michaela Bertrand doubled for the Lady Blue Streaks.

Mikayla Moore fired a one-hitter and struck out 13 as Stillwater beat Schuylerville, 3-2, in the Wasaren League.

Emily McLaughlin drove in five runs, Marley Gigler and Rachel Peek homered, and Schalmont beat Johnstown, 11-6, in a non-league game.

Hoosick Falls pushed across an unearned run in the 10th inning to edge Cohoes, 2-1. Rachel Quackenbush threw a four-hitter with 13 strikeouts for the winners.

Erica McNulty struck out 17, and belted a three-run home run and RBI single as Scotia-Glenville nipped Amsterdam, 8-7.
