Eight tank shells safely removed from Albany County man's home
COEYMANS -- Authorities say an Albany County man called a cable television show to find out if the tank ammunition he found in the basement of his home was worth anything.
Police in Coeymans tell local media outlets that staffers with the Discovery Channel’s “Sons of Guns” series told Sean Riley not to touch the ammunition and to contact police.
When local police and a state police bomb squad arrived at Riley’s home Thursday afternoon, he showed them the eight 20mm tank shells he had found in his basement.
Police believe the ammunition dates back to the 1950s. They removed the shells without incident.
