April was alive with activity in 1966.
The Capital District Women’s Press Association, high-stepping student nurses, dancing teenagers, the “Man of the Year” and even “Miss 400 Astrojet” were seen on the scene.
Editors and writers for the Schenectady Gazette visited Gov. Nelson A. Rockefeller and his wife, Margaretta “Happy” Rockefeller, at the executive mansion. Women from other local newspapers, radio stations and television stations were also part of the party, part of the formation of the Capital District Women’s Press Association.
Women from Ellis Hospital’s School of Nursing were also in good moods. Dressed in long, old-fashioned dresses, the gang seemed happy to be part of “Happiness is . . . HI,” a stage show presented April 21 at Linton High School.
Teens in Scotia and Glenville got their own hangout. “The Place” was in the Scotia Knights of Columbus Hall, and Coca-Cola and conversation were among the main attractions.
At 12, Earl Pittman was a young man. He was also a big man with the Schenectady Boys’ Club. During the spring of 1966, Earl was named the club’s “Man of the Year.” For participation in club activities, cooperative attitude toward leaders and members and willingness to help the club and community, Earl won a trophy and a savings bond.
“Miss 400 Astrojet” was Patricia Poulsen, 22, a graduate of the University of Arizona and a stewardess with American Airlines. Poulsen was on the move, talking up the “Astrojet” all over the country. The twin-engine jet cruised at 550 miles per hour.
Patty also found time to moonlight a little bit. In 1970, she played a stewardess in the big-budget, big star motion picture “Airport.”
April was also banner month for Schenectady merchants, kid train engineers, legal experts, Easter egg fans and party decorators.

What a great picture!! I am 57 years old now but I immediately recognized Bonnie Ballantye - she took care of me many many times when I was on patient on the Pediatric floor at Ellis Hospital. I remember her as a student and as a graduate.
Would love to let her know how much I appreciated her as a nurse and really as friend. I spent a good part of my younger years in and out of the hospital and I really got to know a lot of the staff
