When I first saw the anti-Hull mailers in Schenectady, I said this is the unions. They were slick and professional-looking, and they didn’t so much hammer Roger Hull, candidate for mayor, as knee him in the groin. One featured a jukebox with his supposed greatest hits — “The Tax Man,” “Whole Lotta Takin’ Going On,” “Baby I’m a Rich Man,” and so forth. The other showed a restaurant check that he supposedly skipped out on, ...

Carl, it is obvious that Mccarthy has the fire department's union in his back pocket. Why doesn't the gazette investigate the fact that the independence party of schenectady county is made up of predominantly firemen and their families. The party's leader is an ex union president. What has been going on for years continues, back door deals in order to get a third party line on the ballot. Things will not change, pension padding and union giveaway will lead to the same old tax and fee increases. My advice to the readers, stop paying your property taxes, occupy city hall, let's put the squeeze on the politicians and unions. We can't afford not to!

It's a ten days before the election what is Gary McCarthy vision or plan for the next 4 years? Besides raising every tax and fee AGAIN! Same as the last 16 years. Politics is about more then self enrichment. All we see are endless Democratic slime mailers with no facts attacking Roger Hull. Carl should match Gary's contributors list with Metroplex recipients.

We need new eyes on old problems. Whether it's pit bulls, the golf course, crime or taxes Gary McCarthy has no answers. If he had a clue we would have seen it like 12 years ago.

I don't know anything about the matters he brings up but SamClemens' tone is scurrilous and ugly, and the guy obviously has trouble making his point and getting out of the way. In other words he talks too much, too loud, and too hatefully. I wouldn't believe anything he said. Carl Strock is a big reason I'm keeping my subscription to the Gazette.

We don't like to delete comments, but we will for a number of reasons including: if they make unsubstantiated charges, if they're untrue, if they aim to insult another commenter, if they violate copyright laws, if they're not germane and if the tone is degrading and uncivil.

Judy,
I woke up this morning to a Labor Union President telling me to stop asking McCarthy that question. I have the letters in my Facebook messages, is that substantiated enough? Also it was not an accusation, it was a question that the Acting Mayor needs to answer.

Wmarincic,
The problem is that your question is in the form of a public accusation.

Apparently there is no problem with Acting Mayor McCarthy being a full time County investigator, Metroplex board member and City Council President all at the same time. Schenectady is being run like a corrupt small Southern town. At Union College, Roger Hull tripled endowments, repaired the campus and revitalized the adjacent College Park neighborhood. They have done more than all nonprofits in the City combined.

Judy,
That is fine but now that you know the issue the question is, will the Gazette investigate this or will it be swept under the rug. I find it troubling that I would be told to stop asking the question, by a union president no less. Reminds me of Chicago in the 60s.

Too bad the Gazette is examining Union College excellent finances instead of the total mess in the City. 16 years of Gary McCarthy voting to increase every tax and invent new fees.
