The advertised 1.89 percent increase is for taxes only, which is not the whole picture, since City Hall breaks out the cost of garbage collection, as well as water and sewer services, and charges for those things separately. Property taxes, strictly speaking, will go up ...

Another disaster for Schenectady property owners. No wonder over 800 properties are for sale and a record number of abandoned properties off the tax rolls. Gary McCarthy believes more taxes will solve everything. He still doesn't get it.

How much would the elimination of tax exemptions -that are not constitutionally protected- and credits increase the tax base? Why does an unelected Authority have the power to reduce the City's tax base with exemptions?

46.7% of my monthly mortgage payment goes to Schenectady. Why would anyone want to become a new homeowner in the city?

This is EXACTLY what I said would happen if Albany passed the tax cap. I KNEW municipalities would increase/add fees as a way to get around the tax cap! Soon we'll see more city services taken out of city taxes and called fees!

Stop giving them ideas.....and vote them out!!!!!!! And have change to make cuts and renegotiate contracts instead of laying down for votes and giving the special interest groups what they want....Things are not getting better by the TEAM in place...

Gumshoe McCarthy had an UNPRECEDENTED six month opportunity to show that he was (he's NOT!) a kick derriere change-agent (six sigma!) turn around guy ! instead the mayor's compensation was reduced by a ROUNDING ERROR !! Wow! and they say he didn't make mistakes in the debate!! He also said (listen carefully! "the problem is - people AREN'T paying their taxes!" HUH? per capita income is <$20K/yr family income is <$30K/yr .. but they must pay $4K +++ annual taxes and remedy all the code violation citations!!

we don't need a night owl gumshoe to run this city! where is the accountability on Garage ma hal? the current 8 yr majority in city hall have no financial acumen! ACUMEN! they are only self serving and NOT PUBLIC SERVANTS. they are NOT EDUCATED in FINANCIAL RECOVERY matters.
