Taking a brief break from mayoral politics in Schenectady as well as Republican presidential politics in the nation at large, I attended a bullfight in Mexico City the other day, as I had promised myself I would. I have toiled these many months without respite, and I convinced myself I had earned it. My wife needed no convincing. She is as much a partisan of Mexico City as I am, and as much an aficionada ...

It figures that you would enjoy watching the torture of an animal Strock. Let me ask you, what is the difference between this and dog fighting? The bull is stabbed repeatedly and weakened by others and then is finished off by a matador. The bull is terrified and fighting for it's life, what a disgusting practice. You are a typical liberal athiest Strock.

Whether ritual or sport, bull fighting is wrong, Strock. There is something horribly wrong with and others that take delight in watching an animal tortured to death.

I grew up around farms and helped to slaughter cows and other livestock for food. This was done in most humane way possible out of respect for the animals we would eat. I know my steak and chicken doesn't just show up on a plastic tray magically at a supermarket as something had to die for it. I've also been to the bullfights in Juarez Mexico ~25 years ago and after watching the first two out of 10 'fights' I left bored and disgusted. It's not a sport, it's definitely not graceful or refined, but it sure is arrogant. The bullfighter has a whole team to assist him in 'fighting' this animal including a heavily padded, and probably armored horse, with a rider who periodically spears the bull to slowly bleed and weaken it so the toreador (sp?) can finish it off. The bull only manages to get a few half-hearted runs at this guy in the ring before the spearing, hooking, and stabbing begins. Rodeo clowns have a greater chance of being killed than these toreadors. It may be a cultural rite from earlier times, but it belongs on the dust heap of history as a barbaric activity that really ought to stop now.

wmarinic, I don't get how enjoying the barbaric sport of bullfighting identifies one as a "typical liberal atheist" -seems like a stretch to me... (unless anyone that disagrees with any of your views is a brain-damaged, socialist, non-working liberal leach on society) -just saying...

Pretty much right on EH3. Liberals believe everything is alright, we can abort babies, we can break laws , we can do drugs and we can do nothing and the government will be your daddy, that is liberal thinking.

So liberals believe anything goes? Conservatives never get abortions, never break laws, never do drugs and are all working hard and refuse government handouts... and a Mexican bullfight is full of bloodthirsty liberal fans. It's so simple and clear, why didn't I see this before.

Carl, you didn't really describe a Mexican as "full of beans" did you?

Yes he did call a Mexican "full of beans", unfotunately the better ending to the story would have been the animal torturer dead by the horns of the bull but unfortunately not.
