— Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of an Albany man Monday and injured another.

Steven Stewart, 49, was killed in the collision on the Thruway just east of Amsterdam, according to a release from State Police.

Stewart was a passenger in a Green's Appliances delivery truck driven by John Brooks, 28, also of Albany. Brooks was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital and was listed in stable condition, according to police.

The Montgomery County 911 dispatch center received a call about the crash at 4:13 p.m. Monday.

Police said Brooks slammed into the rear end of a tractor trailer driven by Sosthene Agba Yamahore, 37, of Tucker, GA.

Yamahore told police he was driving slowly because of possible mechanical problems and he was using his hazard flashers.

Brooks told investigators he didn't see the 18-wheeler until it was too late to avoid it.

Traffic was routed along the shoulder of the Thruway during the response to the crash. State police were assisted by GAVAC Ambulance and firefighters from the Glen, Pattersonville and Florida fire departments.
