Golf Guide: ENYGA tournaments still the best deal in town

The best deal in town, especially for the 50-and-over set, is the Eastern New York Golf Association.

Despite challenging economic conditions over the last couple of seasons, the ENYGA has thrived with its weekly events. ENYGA players are loyal, and the fact that their tee times and foursomes are guaranteed throughout the season entices them to show up every week, even in poor weather conditions.

“We’re definitely one of the best deals in town,” said ENYGA president Ron Farrigan, who runs the whole show from tee to green.

“We averaged over 100 players per event last year. We definitely had another good year.”

Not much changes in ENYGA circles. The dues remain at $25 per year, and the greens fees are $26, plus cart. Almost all courses on the ENYGA schedule mandate the use of carts, but that’s just fine with ENYGA members, some of who find it a little harder to get around on foot these days.

Gift certificates to pro shops on the ENYGA schedule are awarded in each class for the top gross and net performances.

There are several special events on the ENYGA schedule. The Lou Torre Two-Man, named after the late longtime Gazette golf columnist, will be held June 6 at Sycamore Country Club in Ravena. The Harry and Bonnie Clark Memorial ABCD Championship and dinner is set for July 13 at Orchard Creek. There will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start for that event.
